Is it worth repainting a roof?

It’s a question most Aucklanders ask themselves at some point – is it worth getting my roof repainted

While the answer is ‘yes’ many homeowners don’t want the added expense of a roof repaint, especially if the roof is intact and doing its job.

However, what they don’t see are the possible issues that are forming over time, such as flaking paint, rust or general deterioration.

These are often only noticed when there’s an actual leak.  By then the damage is done.

But if you’re proactive and keep on top of things, you can sleep easy at night.  This does not mean painting every few years.  Far from it, we’re talking about painting every 10 – 15 years.

The key benefits of repainting a roof and keeping your roof maintained are that you won’t need to get it replaced, which is a very costly procedure, which you will have to pay three to four times as much as painting a roof.

So painting saves you money! Even when you get a new roof it needs to be repainted eventually with a specialised roof paint, and for the typical Auckland homeowner this is a task that should not be ignored.

Secondly, you will also have to factor in edge protection, which you may not need if just painting.

Thirdly the speed is obviously a lot quicker to paint and you don’t have to take your roof off and potentially have problems with the elements getting into it while the replacement is happening.

It will be about half the time to paint a roof when done properly, then re roofing a paint job, depending on the size of the roof, can be done within two to five days, generally for a standard residential house.

Bigger houses may take eight or nine days, but they will also take longer for a full replacement to be undertaken, not to mention more expensive!

So in summary, it’s an absolute ‘no brainer’ – painting your roof is 100% worth the time.
